I was with a group of friends this evening and we were talking about gratitude.
A person can get so bogged down in the difficult things in his or her life. We can dwell on the tough stuff. Pity ourselves to the point of making ourselves victims of our own negative thoughts. We need to stop going down that road and think about the things in our lives that we are grateful for...
It doesn't have to be anything big or miraculous...
Just an everyday thing...
Like this...
Or this...
Both in my backyard...
They just landed there. I didn't plant them. Aren't they beautiful?
So today I am grateful to be able to sit in my own backyard and see the beauty that surrounds me. Sometimes I take it for granted...
But not today.
What are you grateful for?
beautiful iris and fern!
I am grateful for this sunshine today,
the walk with pup awaiting,
my butterfly sis whom I miss terribly
and each precious breath
grateful to BE grateful...

Such beauty surrounds you! Your gracious thoughts and gratitude for the little things that perhaps don't always grab your attention, are there for you to discover and appreciate as I appreciate and love your thoughtfulness! You encourage self examination.....that's Good, though sometimes it is painful. Thanks for the lovely iris and fern AND the subtle Reminder! XOX Mom

Gosh, Jill... this is so true. I can so relate to your wise words. I find myself struggling with this very thing often in light of all that I've been through. I use to follow Susan Banbreathnach's Gratitude Journal...where every evening I would write down 5 things which I were grateful for from my day. Thanks for the kick in the butt to be reminded of this.... Today I am grateful for teaching summer school and having that job to help pay my bills this summer, my daughter and my son who are supportive of me, the storm clouds that are building to the north and east of me, my home and yard/garden, a non-committed afternoon to let my body and mind rest a bit.
Love the purple iris, Jill...and the fern...your macro shots are fantastic!! : ))

Your photos are always stunning! I am grateful for so many things, but for now, I'm going to say that I am grateful for my "art friends"!...for their kind words, inspiration, and that we all "get" each other, even though we may live far away....

Oh, such joy in this post! I love your garden photographs... the purple iris and the fern with the dark background. On this morning I am so grateful to be home for the whole day, to be in my garden, to water the plants and soak in the green of the first leaves. A day to create. A day to be at peace. A day with my sweet family and pets... Roxanne
